The last few months have been exciting, scary, stressful, euphoric, and every other superlative in the dictionary. But today is the biggest milestone yet: Kickstarter launch day!
Please, head over to the Kickstarter page right now to make a pledge and to secure your card game deck. You’ll be playing Beta Break at the climbing gym before you know it.
There are multiple tiers for you to choose from (everything from a I-don’t-want-the-cards-but-I-want-to-support-you tier to a give-me-all-the-cards-twice tier).
From what I’ve read, the first 48 hours of a Kickstarter campaign are the most important. This is when a sudden shot of momentum stands a chance of carrying the campaign to its funding goal and beyond. How does this momentum work? I honestly don’t know. I assume something about algorithms and user-committment and sharing and probably also wizards waving wands and such.
But even if that algorithm stuff is fake, it will still delight me to no end to see the funding amount go up during these first two days. As I’ve said before, Beta Break is my only creative endeavor that people (even strangers) seem to really, really, really like. I simply say “a card game you play at the climbing gym” or “climb how the card tells you to climb” and climbers seem to understand the potential right away. There really is no better feeling than a player understanding the concept of a game–and allowing their imaginations to run wild–with just a single phrase.
“Time Moves Only When You Move” That’s Superhot.
“Why has everyone in your family died except for you (and your unborn child)?” That’s What Remains of Edith Finch.
“Climb how the card tells you to climb.” That’s Beta Break.
If you have already signed up to be notified about the Kickstarter launch, then all you need to do is click over to the Kickstarter page complete your pledge.
If you have not already signed up to be notified, then, well, you just need to do the same thing. There was no need for me to make this distinction.
Head over to Kickstarter. Select a tier. Make a pledge. And get ready for the most fun you’ll have the climbing gym since that time you rose-moved to a chunky jug and rode the barn door swing out to a beautiful toe hook around the arete.
No. Wait. Beta Break is even more fun than that!
Still not convinced? Take a look at this trailer and just try not to pledge:
