I'm making a card game you play at the climbing gym
Take a break from the beta by breaking the beta!
Over the last week or so I've been developing a card game.
Beta Break turns any boulder problem at your local climbing gym into a competitive game with your climbing friends. And the best part: every boulder problem is a completely new and different game!
Early signs are positive. People seem intrigued by the concept. And I'm having a ton of fun developing it.
Back in my video game development days I often found myself more enthusiastic about the dev diary side of development than with the coding. The game itself will represent the “what” of a game, but it fails to capture the “why.”
I'm a nerd; I like the “why.”
Which brings me to the purpose of this subsection of the Sendship Substack, this offshoot dedicated to the development of Beta Break.
My plan is to get super nerdy. Here I will document everything from ruleset ideas to the results of playtests. I'll celebrate the success as well as offer up grizzly failure post-mortems.
Eventually, maybe, this little game will be available for sale. I have no idea how all that works, but as I learn about it, you will too.
